From Chapter 4: Linda Rondstadt's "When Will I Be Loved" could have been the second consecutive number 1 single from her Heart Like a Wheel album if not for the Captain and Tenille's juggernaut "Love Will Keep Us Together." Still, it did hit number 1 on the country charts and spent 13 weeks on the pop charts in 1975.
Although she had her first hit in 1967, with the Stone Poneys, Linda Rondstadt officially became a pop star in 1975. Her four Top 40 hits that year—indeed virtually all her hits—were remakes: the number 1 "You're No Good" (Betty Everett, 1963), "When Will I Be Loved" (the Everly Brothers,1960), "(Love Is Like a) Heat Wave" (Martha and the Vandellas, 1963) and "The Tracks of My Tears" (the Miracles, 1965).

"When Will I Be Loved" plays on the radio Karen sneaks in on a rainy day at Playland. She notes that, since starting her romance with co-worker Patrick, she no longer has to wonder when she'll be loved. "Having a boyfriend is everything I ever wanted," she says. "It
fills every second of my life: I am always aware of his presence in the world.
Our world." Ah, first love!
